The European Commission organised an anniversary event to mark the 15 years of the General Food Law (Regulation (EC) No 178/2002) on 27 November 2017 in Brussels, Belgium.

‘’The purpose of the event is to take stock of the benefits of the General Food Law as a sound basis for the Internal Market and international trade, the safeguards in place, the role of science and the challenges it is exposed to in terms of trust of citizens and consumers. The event would also inform a debate whether in terms of objectives, other considerations beyond those related to safety could complement the General Food Law as part of an integrated EU food policy.’’
